Americans With Disabilities Act Amendments to Take Effect In January

On September 25, 2008, President Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 (“ADAAA”). The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives had recently approved this legislation to amend the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), a federal statute that prohibits workplace discrimination based on disability. The ADAAA, which will take effect on January 1, 2009, marks a substantial expansion in the scope of federal disability law.
